In the early 1840’s saxophone was created by Antoine-Joseph “Adolphe” Sax who was a Belgian inventor and musician in Paris. Originally there were 14 members of the saxophone family and that Sax conceived of an orchestra consisting solely of saxophones and made it different range sizes of saxophones. Yet today, there were only 6 types in widespread use ranging from soprano to bass and characterized by a conical metal tube with about 24 openings controlled by padded keys in which the mouthpiece is quite similar to clarinet. With its invention, it became one of the most important solo instruments in the development of swing and other forms of jazz.
